February: John Henry Roustabout
John Henry. King of the Steel Driving men, the men who ran the railroads across America. Seven feet tall, stronger than a bull, three hundred pounds and steel in his soul. Some say he was born a slave in the 1840's, way down in West Virginia. Some say he fought in the war, some say his mother got him to freedom. And some say that he was born in the middle of a storm when the lightning flashed. Black as night and strong as the thunder, John Henry worked harder and longer than any other man alive. He is the quintessential working man, the god of steel and sweat and hard work and living the way your heart said you should, living honest and strong. Even if it killed you. This February, I'll be telling his stories.
